An IT Project Manager with Network and VoIP expertise is responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects specifically related to an organization's network infrastructure and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems. This includes everything from implementing new network topologies and upgrading existing VoIP solutions to migrating to cloud-based communication platforms.
Key Responsibilities often include:
Project Planning: Defining project scope, objectives, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements for network and VoIP initiatives.
Stakeholder Management: Collaborating with internal teams (e.g., network engineers, telecom specialists, IT support), vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure project alignment and communication.
Budget Management: Managing project budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
Risk Management: Identifying potential risks and issues related to network and VoIP projects and developing mitigation strategies.
Vendor Management: Evaluating, selecting, and managing third-party vendors for network hardware, software, and VoIP services.
Technical Oversight: While not typically hands-on, they need a strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, routing, switching), QoS, VLANs, SIP, RTP, and various VoIP platforms (e.g., Cisco Call Manager, Microsoft Teams Voice, Asterisk).
Team Leadership: Leading and motivating project teams, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress.
Documentation: Ensuring comprehensive documentation of project plans, configurations, and post-implementation reviews.
Compliance & Security: Ensuring network and VoIP solutions adhere to industry standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
Project Management Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional) or PRINCE2 are highly desirable.
Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of networking concepts (LAN/WAN, firewalls, VPNs), VoIP technologies, unified communications, and cloud telephony.
Experience: Proven experience managing IT projects, specifically in network infrastructure and/or VoIP deployments.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Leadership: Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive projects to successful completion.
Vendor Management: Experience working with and managing external vendors.
